At Shahrizai, we believe that headline to be 100% true. There is nowhere in the state where animals can be agisted that offers what we do. This is true for several reasons.
1) LARGE PADDOCKS - The paddocks at Shahrizai are measured in acres, not metres. There is ample room to roam up and down the clean, gorgeous slopes full of spectacular feed, great shade, and spacious shelter. The paddocks are not only large, but they are also plentiful, and as a result, they are rotated regularly.
2) AMAZING PRICES - The agistment costs at Shahrizai are nowhere near those of other Queensland agistors. In many cases, the prices are half that of other farms. Agistment fees start as low as $5 per animal per week. Moreover, agistees don't get nickeled and dimed for every service provided. We have in the past, and we continue to show animals agisted at Shahrizai for NO additional cost. This is not the case at many other farms. In fact, some farms charge incredible prices to show animals that belong to others. We believe it is part of the service that should be provided. Also, matings to some of the region's best males are drastically discounted, and the fees to mate agisted animals to males owned by the agistee are nominal.
3) BEST CARE - At Shahrizai, there is almost always someone on farm caring for animals. Whether it is both of us, one of us, our reliable farm hand Matt, or a few of our spectacular friends, the animals agisted at Shahrizai are treated like our own and cared for at industry's best practice.
4) CLIMATE - Very intentionally, we moved to this farm to get away from the oppressive humidity of the coast. In 2011, we had more than 40 mornings of frost, and even on our hotter summer days, we are much drier than Brisbane and the coastal areas where most of Queensland's breeders live. Our climate is not only better for growing fleece, but it is also better for the health of the alpacas. We do not have the dreaded paralysis tick, and the combination of the paddocks and the climate have all but eliminated many other parasite problems.
5) LOCATION - Tansey is only a short hour from Gympie, two from the Sunshine Coast, and Bundaberg, and is three quick hours from Brisbane and Toowoomba. We are within three hours of every Queensland show, and only one hour from two different shows - Nanango and Gympie.
