Starting Your Herd

The Ma Belle Line Breed
Those who study the bloodlines of Australia's most successful suris have undoubtedly become familiar with Surilana Macusani Ma Belle (IAR 60404).  Without a doubt, Ma Belle is the dam of more top-level, elite, herd-changing animals than any other dam in the country.  To see her list of progeny, click here.  Her offspring include working males Surilana Quo Vadis ET, El Cordoba, Piccolo, Mr. B ET, and Nicklesby.  Two of those males were National Supreme Champions, and she is the dam of several Supremes at the Royal Sydney and Melbourne shows. The two most amazing alpacas I have ever seen (keeping in mind I never saw Piccolo in the flesh) are both Ma Belle's ET daughters, Surilana Belle of the Ball, and Surilana Bellita.  Each of these girls was quite literally breath-taking, and each were highly decorated in the showring in their own rights.

At Shahrizai, a very conscoius effort was made to get Ma Belle genetics in different working males.  She is very readily found in the pedigrees of Surilana Belle Boy ET, Surilana Macusani Master ET, and Shahrizai Bronco.

Belle Boy has the most direct link to the holiest of Australian suri females.  He is straight from Ma Belle and Surilana T-Pito.  Meanwhile, Master is a son from Ma Belle's first cria, Surilana Accoyo El Cordoba and as such, has her on his grandmother line.  He also brings Surilana Macusani Miss, a highly valued, full accoyo female, to the pedigree as his dam.  Having Ma Belle as a grandmother is also the case for Shahrizai Bronco, one of the very rare sons of Ma Belle's most famous progeny, Surilana Piccolo.  Piccolo swept the show curcuit in 2006 and has since seen his progeny begin to assault the circuit as well.  To see Piccolo progeny results at just the 2011 National Show, click
here.

The goal of Shahrizai's suri breeding program rests in a careful line-breed using the males that come straight from Ma Belle.  Both Belle Boy and Master are full-accoyo males.  Bronco is only half accoyo, but boasts a dam from what is regarded as the best top-to-bottom group of suris ever imported to the country.  Ideally, daughters from these boys will be mated to the other males once they are mature enough to breed.  The beauty of this line-breed will be that it is not too close for comfort, yet not so distant as to lose the impact that she has on her progeny.

To add more depth to the line-breed, currently standing at stud at Shahrizai is Pinjarra Shoe Shuffle, another grandson of Ma Belle.  To make Shoe Shuffle an even more attractive male, he is a dark fawn whose dam is a full sister to the famous Cedar House Desert Prince.  Imagine, a Ma Belle line-breed with colour!  Also standing at Shahrizai is Surilana Marshall ET.  Marshall is also from El Cordoba, the first Ma Belle son.  Marshall not only carries the sacred Ma Belle blood, but he brings accoyo blood from another of Surilana's best dams, Surilana Macusani Madonna.

To learn more about the Ma Belle line-breed, feel free to ring or email.  To view progeny from the Ma Belle boys, make an appointment to visit our beautiful farm in Tansey, an hour west of Gympie in southeast Queensland.
